Climate
Global warming is the defining issue of our time. It affects life on Earth everywhere. In places where wood and charcoal are still burned to purify and heat water, vulnerability to climate change is particularly high. When trees disappear, rain patterns change. Solvatten reduces this vulnerability. Read moreSolvatten is used in climate and energy projects where households need access to safe water and aim to reduce their dependence on wood, charcoal, and other fuels.
The Challenge
In many parts of the world, wood and charcoal are still used to purify and heat water. This contributes to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and poor indoor air quality. At the same time, households without access to modern energy sources are often dependent on solutions that are both costly and unsustainable in the long term.
Solvatten as a Solution
Solvatten uses solar energy to purify and heat water directly in the home. By reducing the need for wood and charcoal, households can decrease their fuel consumption while improving access to clean and warm water.
Our Work
We work in areas where the climate impact of wood and charcoal fuel is prevalent and where access to other sustainable energy alternatives is limited. Together with local partners, Solvatten is integrated into climate, environmental, and livelihood programs that strengthen both household finances and the local community at large.
Impact
- Better Health
- Reduced carbon dioxide emissions
- Reduced deforestation
- Lower dependence on wood and charcoal
- More renewable energy is used
- Improved local environments
Invest in Climate Action with Solvatten
In Kenya, Solvatten operates a Gold Standard-certified climate project in collaboration with clients such as Axfood, Apoteket, Kleer, Adtraction, Ålandsbanken, Giertz, Vitec, and many more. The project is reviewed by independent third parties, and the climate benefit is measured and verified according to Gold Standard requirements. According to our measurements, one Solvatten kit can reduce emissions by approximately 1 ton of CO₂e per year by decreasing the use of wood, charcoal, and other fuels.
At the same time, families gain access to safe, warm water. This means that a climate action can also contribute to better health, lower fuel costs, time savings, reduced deforestation, and increased resilience to climate change. Solvatten’s third-party verified emission reductions can be reported separately as a verified climate contribution in a company’s sustainability report.

“From a corporate perspective, we chose Solvatten because it’s rare to find a partnership where the E and the S in sustainability work (ESG) improve at the exact same moment. It’s not just a ton of CO2 on a spreadsheet a year from now—it’s women who no longer have to spend hours fetching wood and water, children who avoid sick days, and forests that are left standing. That difference is visible from day one, and it’s exactly the kind of concrete impact we are passionate about showcasing.”
“On a personal level, it’s about seeing a benefit and positive impact immediately. Every Solvatten kit distributed results in both reduced emissions and a direct improvement in a family’s daily life, that very same day. No long wait, no uncertain estimates. That immediate, measurable difference is exactly why I am proud to stand behind this.”
